The mission of the Washington Area Intergroup Association (WAIA) Archives Committee is to document permanently the work of Alcoholics Anonymous in the Washington, DC area, to make the history of our area’s fellowship accessible to A.A. members and other researchers, and to provide a context for understanding WAIA’s evolution.

Cooperation with the Professional Community (CPC) activities include the provision of information about A.A. to those who have contact with alcoholics through their profession.  This group includes health care professionals, educators, clergy, lawyers, social workers, employers, government officials, as well as those working in the field of alcoholism.  Information is provided about where we are, what we are, what we can do, and what we cannot do.
The purpose of Public Information (PI) is to provide accurate A. A. information to the public when requested.  They visit schools, businesses and community meetings.  They also serve as resources for our friends in the local media, emphasizing our Traditions of anonymity, singleness of purpose and non-affiliation.

H & I

The WAIA Hospitals and Institutions Committee (H&I) serves to coordinate with local area hospitals and institutions to ensure that the hand of AA is always available when needed. H&I Publishes a monthly newsletter in the “new reporter”.

Literature

 The Literature Committee maintains an inventory of AA books and pamphlets that are made available to groups at the monthly WAIA Board of Directors meetings. The committee also offers to make literature available by invitation to group celebrations and events.

Night Watch

The Night Watch Committee coordinates the volunteers that answer the WAIA phones remotely from 10:00 PM – 10:00 AM. Each day has two shifts: one from 10 PM until 6 AM and one from 6 AM until 10 AM. Volunteers field calls relating to AA, such as meetings in the area, relaying AA information to newcomers, and discussing alcoholism in general.

The mission of the Washington Area Intergroup Association (WAIA) Outreach Committee is to help create awareness about WAIA among AA groups in the Washington, DC metro area. In addition, the Outreach Committee assists the WAIA office by confirming meetings and welcomes new WAIA Board members to the monthly Board meeting.

The purpose of the accessibility committee (Formerly “Special Needs”) is to help make AA accessible to every member who desires it by raising awareness within the AA community of the challenges faced by those with special needs such as mobility, vision, hearing etc. when accessing meetings and building capacity within the AA community to offer meetings, special functions, and service opportunities to members with special needs.

New Reporter

The “New Reporter” is the monthly newsletter of WAIA. The Reporter Committee is responsible for the content of the newsletter by gathering or writing articles.
